Summer Fun Has Begun

We made our first trip to the lake this past weekend, Gus loved the water, the boat, and quality time with his family. Gus has become a much more active and talkative little man in the past two weeks - as his Grammy said - once he realized he could command the attention of an entire airplane there really is no stopping him! We are enjoying him so much right now, this is such a fun age and again we really are so lucky to have a laid back and happy baby.

I'm Leaving on an Airplane...

So Memorial Day weekend turned into a last minute trip to PA on a super e-saver direct from Columbia to Philly to see Grammy & Papou and meet Uncle Chris for the first time. Gus was a rockstar flyer on the way to PA, but meltdowns ensued on the way home (largely in part to the 1.5 hour unexplicable delay in Philly - which is pretty much standard when you fly out of Philly). All in all he was a great little flyer - doesn't he look thrilled!


We had a great weekend with my family and look forward to our return trip in August. Below are some pictures from the weekend - so fun!

Daddy Time

With the election only 17 days away, BJ doesn't get to spend as much time at home as he would like these days, but we've managed to sneak in some family outings and some quality time at home. Gus loves his daddy and loves to touch his face (especially at the end of the day when the 5'oclock shadow emerges). These are a few sweet pictures of the two of them!

Jump, Jump, Jump... Nap

So Gus turned 5 months old on Saturday. He's become quite an active vegetarian in recent weeks, enjoying peas, carrots, green beans, sweet potatoes, squash, and bananas so far. He hasn't turned his nose up at anything! He loves to jump in his doorway jumper - its become the newest addition to our "dinner making" and "shower time" rotation of activities. On Sunday I was making dinner and looked over and this is how I found the little man.



Ahhhh if only us adults could be satisfied with peas for dinner, a Walmart lamp for entertainment, and a nap while suspended from a door frame - life would be a lot simpler. Thanks for showing us how to slow down and enjoy the simple things little man - Happy 5 Months Gus Gus!

Welcome Spring - Happy Easter

Its been a crazy couple of weeks, and with only 60+ days until the Republican primary election, there is no slowing down in our near future. We've managed to sneak in a few fun activities and enjoy time outside while the weather is warm (once it gets hot we stay in with the AC cranked - after all we do live in a city whose slogan is "Famously Hot" - that didn't happen by accident!)

We've been on many walks facing out in our jogging stroller and sporting our new spring hat.

We've been working on getting Gus to put weight on his feet - the jumpy is helping, but often evokes a look of shear terror on Gus's face when he first get in it.

Whats new with "the Gus"

BJ refers to Gus as "the Gus" whenever he posts something about the little man on facebook, so I thought I'd update the blog with some recent happenings with "the Gus".

The Gus enjoys bathtime with his new bath book from Grandma - I love this picture - he looks like such a big boy reading in the bathtub.

The Gus falls aasleep with Skip-it (one of many lovies) in his carseat - so sweet.


The Gus tries desperately to watch tv, and will crane his neck all the way back to see it no matter where he is in the room - I see trouble here!


The Gus ate rice cereal for the first time (he did well with the eating part, not so much with the keeping it in part - doesn't he look underfed and miserable - ha!)_. We tried again the next day and it was much better on both fronts - I think sweet potatoes and peas are in our near future.



The Gus weighs 16.5 lbs as of his doctor's appointment last week and is already teething (so fun!) He is a very happy baby, he talks, smiles and laughs all the time and melts our hearts daily. He will be 4 months old next week and it has flown by.

So week 14 has proved to be an interesting one for Gus and has been both fun and trying for BJ and I. He giggled for the first time on Wednesday. He is also talking more interactively, I think he startles himself sometimes when he gets really loud. He is also fighting sleep, which makes for a cranky baby and a tired mommy and daddy. He will be exhausted but will fight sleep during the day and the second he gets put down in his crib wake back up - we feared early tooth cutting or an ear infection, but no signs of either, so we are going to have to go the "cry it out" route for the first time. It won't be easy, but hopefully whatever is going on with the little man will work itself out in a few days and we can return to a schedule. Wish us luck!
